SMS and Phone Scams are a scam activity that is done by using smartphones. The following is the latest modus operandi and things that you should do if you’ve received a suspicious call or SMS.

Modus operandi
  • Customer may receive SMS with the following text: Congratulations! Your Sim Card has been chosen to win a cash prize of RM25,000 from Bean Ice Corp. Please call 011-xxxxxxx. Thank you.
  • Customer calls back the given mobile number.
  • Fraudster informs the customer to go to BSN Branch to update the mobile number.
  • Fraudster guides customers through registering for internet banking.
  • Upon successful registration, the fraudster uses information gathered from the customer (such as ATM card number and IC number) and proceeds with the internet banking registration through the web.
  • Fraudster performs transactions using internet banking.
What you should do?
  • Ignore suspicious SMS or phone calls from unknown numbers.
  • Do not reveal any of your banking credentials to any third party.
  • If in doubt, please call our Contact Centre immediately.
  • BSN does not send any text message with hyperlink. Beware of SMS Scam tactics and avoid clicking on a suspicious link in a text message.
